About the piano teacher

Winnie Choy is an experienced piano teacher from Brisbane offering piano lessons since 2008 from her air-conditioned studio. She was classically trained by professional teachers in Australia. She has an Associate Diploma in Music Teaching (Australian Music Examination Board) and a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of New England (from which she gained mainly distinction and high distinction results). She has taught many students with different starting abilities including some with special needs such as autism. "I believe all human beings have the ability to be musical whether they are aware of them or not! For those who want to understand this art further, it is my job as a piano teacher to thoughtfully plan a program to enable my pupils to understand the elements that make up music and to know how they are organised, and to learn the playing techniques to be able to create beautiful music on the piano."

Winnie has been my piano teacher since 2018. She teaches at a pace that is right for the student which I find is really helpful especially when I also need to juggle my school work with other priorities. Nevertheless, she ensures I play my pieces to my best ability without compromising my technical skills and interest for music. Overall, she has a warm and easy personality that will go a long way in establishing a good rapport with anyone.
